This was the response I got from Asprient to a post I wrote about them, "are you black ? we do our best to avoid you. stay in Ferguson...." My sad experience with Asprient includes: 1) I was asked to move to a renovated unit so they could renovate my unit. They sent me an itemization for the former unit. My $110 security deposit balance was transferred to my new unit. No check was included. I asked about the refund after moving into the renovated unit, but they did not respond. When I broke my new lease, they kept my entire security deposit for the 2 units, even though I did not break the lease for the former unit. I believe they kept the initial deposit so they could hold on to more money in case they had to withhold my new unit's deposit. 2) I was needlessly blamed for causing the roach problem in the building. They just added a $100 maintenance fee to my ledger with the comment: "roach issue" with no further explanation. When I asked about the charge by email, they claimed that I had the dirtiest unit in the building which attracted roaches that spread to other units, so I caused them to spend money on pest control! My unit was actually clean, so once I applied roach gel, boric acid, insecticide, etc., the roaches disappeared; I have not had a roach problem since then. If you have had roaches in a clean place, you can understand what I went through. When I moved into my initial unit, when the building was owned by previous owners, I observed dead roaches and other evidence to indicate that there was a roach problem in the unit before I moved in! They even charged a $50 late fee on the fee, even though the lease states that late fees apply to late rent. They only got back to me about the fee when they needed a date for me to pay up. 3) I got an email stating that they would charge me $50 for my maintenance request for a kitchen sink leak, because the maintenance technician said that I removed the garbage disposal, which caused the leak. I truthfully responded to the technician that I did not remove it, when he asked. Thankfully, no charge ever appeared on my ledger. 4) When I asked again about the $110 security deposit they transferred from my former unit, they stated that they would continue to bill me for their pest control bill if I did not stop bothering them! I just told them to use the deposit to pay the bill. They said since I broke my lease, I was not going to receive a deposit refund. However, I did not break the lease for the former unit, but Asprient terminated the lease so they could renovate the unit. The leasing agent told me that I would receive a security deposit refund, for the former unit, based on its condition. I signed a new lease for the renovated unit and paid a new security deposit. I eventually got a $30 deposit refund from the renovated unit. The amount of deposit I paid was reduced on the itemization and they made several questionable deductions! There was, of course, no mention of the deposit they transferred from my former unit. 5) A portion of the security deposit is not refundable - $75 cleaning fee and $50-90 city inspection fee. The cleaning fee is supposed to go into cleaning the unit after you leave. However, there have been reviewers that stated their units were dirty when they moved in. Even though I moved into a freshly renovated unit, my fridge was dirty. There was food debris from the old tenant. I had to thoroughly clean the fridge before putting my food in it. I wonder what happened to the $75 cleaning fee they probably deducted from the former tenant's security deposit. It did not appear someone checked the fridge to ensure that it was clean and operating properly before I moved in. Asprient later offered to pay the $110 security deposit if I remove the negative reviews I posted about them. I declined, they then threatened to sue me for defamation for making up the Ferguson comment. I, of course, did not make up the comment, but received it as an anonymous email response to a post I wrote about Asprient. Avoid Asprient.
